Social Media Blues
11/26/2014
![]() Let’s keep it real! We all want to be liked, accepted and have thousands of followers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Vine etc. etc. We tell people to follow us on Twitter and leave comments like #f4f or #follow4follow, #s4s, #like4life, in hopes that we get more followers. We download apps that claim to get us hundreds of followers. And when people don’t follow us we feel some type of way. Some of us may get mad and start to unfollow those who don’t follow us back. We unfollow people who don’t like our pics and we download apps that tell us who unfollowed us. (half of the time we don’t even know the p person in “real-life” but we can’t have it mess up or numbers). We get bent out of shape, depressed and we started to feel like crap because we don’t have enough likes on a picture or a FB status THAT YOU KNOW was HOT! We judge ourselves based on a number! We wait for certain times of the day to post pics because we know that’s when we will get the most likes! That’s really sad, but it is the heartbreaking, disgusting truth of this world that we live in. Your following-to-followers ratio must be equal or less?! You should never be following MORE people than those who follow you?! You can’t follow a person who has less than 100 followers? Who made up these rules? Why do we allow a computer, cell phone, an app define who we are? Do you not know that you are MORE than the likes and the follows you get on social media? Those people who you are craving attention from really don’t care about you. They like what you post and will either double tap your pic, hit the like button or retweet your post…. Or they will keep on scrolling. Recently I deleted my IG and decided to start all over (@CheriseStyles, just in case you want to follow LOL)! I wanted a new start, new followers and a new look. So I challenged myself and instead of deleting all of my 500+ pix and changing my name I decided to take it all down! :GASP: That meant I lost all of my 500+ followers, all my pics, likes and comments. Can I tell you that doing that was hard? I like likes! I would jokingly tell my sister that I live for the likes. Sadly, some of that was true. I’m not going to lie, when I would upload a picture I expected to get likes and when I didn’t I would feel some type of way. I would go back and delete pictures that didn’t get enough likes in a certain amount of time! LOL It was bad! I know I am not the only one! We all watch numbers! It doesn’t matter if you are a girl, boy, young or old you want THE LIKES! Now that I have started my new IG page I’m like ok.. where are the followers and where are my likes!? I found myself getting upset about it, but then I had to realize these people that I want to like me and follow me do not add or take away WHO I AM! Having a tiny bit of followers does not mean I am a tiny, unimportant person. Just like having a million followers does not mean you are someone important. Your identity is not found in Facebook, IG or Twitter! Your identity is found in Christ! Jesus came and died for you because He loves you! God has accepted you! His love never stops and you don’t even have to post a picture for Him to like you! You may not follow God but He still loves you! You probably unfollowed God at one point in your life but He still likes…better yet, He still loves you! God supports you and says that you are somebody special! You do not have to look for approval because God approves you and accepts you for who you are! Stop worrying about the likes, the followers and the comments and continue to follow God. When people start to see God in you then they will start to follow you. It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with God! Don’t get the social media blues. Always remember you have the creator of Heaven and earth rooting for you! XOXO, Cherise Sidebar: follow WYC on IG, TWITTER @WearConfidence and like the FB page! LOL And follow me on IG and Twitter @CheriseStyles (I follow back) Feel free to comment leaving your IG and Twitter info below!! *Don’t forget your confidence

I Have A Confession...
11/18/2014
![]() I, CHERISE, have a confession! Are you ready for it?I have become a fan of leggings! Not so much the solid colors. *NOT YET ANYWAY!* But, the different prints! I’m starting to think out of my normal closet. You can do a ton of stuff with leggings! They can be worn with a dress, with shorts or with a long shirt AAAAANDD.. a BLAZER and skirt! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE BLAZERS!!! Please make sure the bootay is covered. You know how I feel about this, if not here it goes: Ladies, we are all proud of the junk in the trunk! IF NOT, embrace it! But please cover the rear end along with the front because simply and boldly put: WE DO NOT WANT TO SEE YOUR CAMEL TOE! *that is the wedgie in the front* Let’s not give “them” anything negative to talk about or draw any attention to parts of our body that would make us and others uncomfortable. Long shirts do the trick! LONG, not a T-shirt! When you bend over be careful the crack does not get exposed, when you lift your hands make sure the front is secure as well. Sometimes it is hard being a girl but don’t let that stop you from wearing cute clothes. Please make sure you do the proper checks before you walk out the house: 1. Bend over check. -Making sure when you bend over or reach for something people do not get a peek at your plumbers crack. 2. Frontal Check - Camel toes are covered and are hidden. (As a matter of fact let’s not have front wedgies at all, that can lead to health issues… EEEK!) 3. Boob Check -Keep the cookies in the cookie jar. You want people to give you eye contact, not boob contact. If you are able to keep the cookies tamed try your best to. Always remember camis are your friend. After you have done your 3 checks wear the leggings with confidence knowing that you won’t have any wardrobe malfunctions but that you also look good! XOXO *Don't forget your confidence You Can Have The "Perfect Body."

The latest Victoria’s Secret ad shows 10 beautiful women posed in lingerie with the words, “The Perfect ‘Body’” in bold, in front of fit, slim models. You’re probably asking yourself what’s the big deal; it’s just Victoria’s Secret, that’s what they do? Well, what if I told you that this very ad caused uproar in the United Kingdom. Many feel that this ad was sending a negative body image to the rest of the world. I have to say that I 100% agree. I am not going to bash Victoria’s Secret and the way they advertise. That’s not my thing. I am aware of their Body by Victoria bras and I know this ad is selling the “perfect” bra, but the models behind the words “The Perfect ‘Body’” are what make me feel …. (I don’t know how I feel right now). It’s not fair to the millions of girls and women who see this and feel inadequate. Yes, I know, life is not fair blah, blah, blah cry me a river, but I still feel some type of way. Yes, I felt weird, my head tilted to the side and I squinted a bit (the same way a dog does when it’s confused). Yes! Me, feeling weird. Don’t think that because I am skinny that I don’t feel feelings when I see ads like this. We all have insecurities and flaws, things we want to change but can’t. To be honest, many of you want to look like these models when these models don’t even look like these models! You fall in love with fake, photoshopped images. Ok, back to the ad. In response to the ad a New York City-based retailer created a positive parody of the ad produced by VS. I love it! This picture represents real women and real bodies! *Scroll down to see the image* Advertisements are here to promote their product by any means necessary. They are not here to make you feel good about yourself, boost your confidence or say things that are correct (THAT’S WHAT I’M HERE FOR). It is about money, sales and how often people are sharing and talking about their product. That is why it is so important to NOT base your importance on what you see in the media. You have to love yourself! Who cares if the ad is subliminally telling us what the perfect body is or looks like? It is up to us girls, ladies and women to not be affected, not compare ourselves and not hate on the models or other people we see in the ads. They are doing a job. We have to know who we are, accept it and be confident that God didn’t make any mistakes when He created us. Maybe if enough of us speak up about the unfair advertisements maybe, just maybe there will be a change, until then we have to know who we are, accept our flaws and love every single nook and cranny about ourselves and our bodies! It is up to you and me to feel accepted and loved. God loves and accepts you! When He sent Jesus to die on the cross for you that was out of love! Who else do you know would willingly die for you? God created you in His image! You can’t let other people, advertisements or your Facebook friends define you or tell you what the "Perfect Body" is! The truth is your body is the perfect body! Don't be fooled! Let God tell you who you are! You are so much more than you think! *Don’t forget your confidence What are your thoughts on the ad? (Survey) Click here to read the article. There is HOPE!
11/5/2014
![]() It seems as though you girls (and guys) have been enjoying my blogs. Is it safe for me to say that? I hope so because I already said it. This post is a bit different from my others. I was debating if I should make this a blog post or just post it on Facebook, but then I thought to myself, THIS IS MY BLOG and I can do pretty much whatever I want lol. So here it is: I have been thinking about taking this blog public! Yes, this blog is already public, it’s on the Internet! What I mean is I want to take this to magazines! Seventeen, Teen Vogue, Glamour, InStyle etc. etc. SPECIFICALLY SEVENTEEN! I wrote a letter to the editor of Seventeen pitching my idea of having an advice column for girls and women to ask questions about confidence, self-esteem, dating and every issues that girls face etc. etc. This column would also include girls sending in pics of their own personal style as well me showing my wardrobe and personal style and encouraging them to be confident in their skin. The thing that would make my column stick out from the rest is that the advice I’d give would include a faith-based approach, so yeah, I would be talking about God. They rejected my idea, however, they wrote me back and said to keep sending them more ideas. I was a bit disappointed BUT I was excited at the same time and I actually thanked God that they even WROTE ME BACK! The column would be called, Confidence and Style with Cherise Styles (that’s what I have for now. If I come up with a better name I will let you know.). Why the name “Cherise Styles”? Because that’s what I love! I love my style! I love dressing up and dressing down it’s how I express myself! I am confident enough to wear what I want and not care about opinions or looks! Clothes don’t make people, people make clothes! I don’t like dressing and looking like everyone else. I don’t follow fashion trends because I don’t like people telling me what I should wear or not to wear (that’s the rebel in me). Ok, back to the point of this post. I NEED YOUR HELP! God gave me the idea to have my supporters to SUPPORT me in my efforts to get this blog international! Let’s take Wear Your Confidence mainstream! If this blog has ever encouraged you, empowered you, made you think, feel accepted, loved, made you laugh or cry then I am asking that you sign a petition to get this blog in a SEVENTEEN magazine! I am asking for 1,000 signatures! I don’t know 1,000 people so that is why I NEED YOU ladies to post, share, retweet, blog, IG etc, etc to get the word out! We can do this before the year it out (December 31, 2014)! THIS WOULD BE A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT! IJS This is what you have to do in order to sign the petition: 1.) Comment ON THIS BLOG on the www.wearyourconfidence.com website NOT FACEBOOK. 2.) Write your NAME (FIRST AND LAST NAME) 3.) Write your ZIP CODE **IN THE COMMENT BOX 4.) Write your EMAIL ADDRESS (so I know your real) **IN THE COMMENT BOX 5.) IF this blog has encouraged you in ANY WAY please include that too! THAT’S IT! Your post should look something like this: “Cherise Styles, 12345, [email protected] I have been empowered ever since reading the blogs from Cherise Styles! This blog needs to be in your magazine and read all over the world!” Thank you so much for the support! Let’s make history. Please sign and share this post! Let’s get 1,000 signatures by December 31, 2014! I can’t do it without you! *Don’t Forget Your Confidence and Don’t Forget To Sign and SHARE! XOXO |
