Too Tight
3/7/2014
Erica Campbell, one-half of the Christian gospel group Mary Mary has been under high scrutiny over her upcoming album cover. The comments have been very harsh and disrespectful (You can read them somewhere else) But why? Why be mean? Why tear her down? The argument surrounds the fact that she is a gospel singer and her outfit is too tight and not appropriate for a “GOSPEL SINGER.” OK… OK… Let me take a step back and take a look at her… :tilts head to the side: As many of you know I am all about style and wearing your confidence. I am also a minister so I’m going to come at this topic from several ways. FIRST, I understand she is a gospel singer and yes, her outfit is without a shadow of a doubt TIGHT but does that mean she is not anointed still? Romans 11:29 states that God's gifts and His call are irrevocable, meaning that God isn’t taking her gift away from her. Does her attire stop a song from ministering to your soul/making you happy? I don’t think so. I read elsewhere that she is not setting a good example to the world. UUUGH! I’m so sick of hearing this. It just makes me want to follow people around with a hidden camera and see if the way they are living is pleasing to the world. :SILENCE: Well what if she is trying to attract that type of crowd? Girls who wear tight clothes. (Stay with me here) Maybe she is being like Paul, who to the Jews became like a Jew, to win the Jews. Maybe she is becoming a person who wears tight clothes to get those who wear tight clothes. Aren’t we supposed to get people to come to God by any means necessary?.. Did she take it too far? ANYWHOOOO…. The way I see it.. The dress is dumb long and she can’t walk in it if she tried. Yes, its tight, too tight for me, but it’s for an album cover not to church (I’d hope not). Maybe a blazer would have toned it down a bit. It’s not like she is posing provocatively or in an obscene manner. Either way, someone would have something to say about her album cover if she were wearing a sack of potatoes and barefoot. I can hear it now, “How could she do that? She is not representing God or His people properly.” Sad, yet true story. That’s just life! There is much more to life than what people wear. Do I think Jesus wept because of her outfit choice? I don’t know. I know God is not pleased with people bad mouthing what she wears. She is a beautiful person. Jesus still loves her. It is not your place or mine to tell her what WE THINK is appropriate FOR HER. That’s between her and God. On the other hand her shoes are the bomb.com where can I purchase them? (hmmm they are not in my budget, nevermind) The world and church are always going to have differences. I strongly believe we as believers and followers of Christ need to influence and impact the world in a positive way. The question now is: What does that look like to you? I wash my hands of this situation. Continue to sing and uplift people with your music honey! I have one life to live and that does not involve me tearing anyone down, especially not you! *Don’t forget your confidence

Does Size Matter?
3/1/2014
Thats right!? Does size matter? *Get your mind out the gutter* I am talking about shoe size, BUT not in the way that you think. I am addressing all the ladies with big feet!.. INCLUDING ME!.. Size 10 and above. (*Sorry to all of those who thought size 10 is not big, but once your in the double digits it is.) ANYWHOO! This is a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT to the not so “average” size footed female. There is nothing wrong with your big feet! Embrace your feet. Love your feet. If it wasn’t for them you wouldn’t be able to run, jump, dance or walk alway from that sorry boyfriend. SO, give your feet some credit. It took me a while to give my feet the credit they deserve. In my line of work, I need my feet. Have you ever seen a model walking a runway without feet? *Don’t answer that* Being a size 11, I USE to have an issue with my feet. I would never wear sneakers or boots because I felt they made my feet look LARGER THAN LIFE! Ask anyone who knows me. This was an obstacle for me that I ALONE had to get over. I don’t know how I did it, but I did. Maybe it had something to do with seeing other girls with big feet wear sneakers and shorts! Yes, SHORTS! .. and it didn’t look bad or crazy. When I did wear sneakers I would always wear long pants to try and cover up my big boats! You wouldn’t catch me wearing skinny jeans and sneakers. But now, You can’t tell me NOTHING! *pardon the grammar* I realized I am more than a size 11. I wear my boots with skinny jeans. I wear the sneakers with shorts. MY FEET ARE BIG but IT DOES'NT MATTER! You want to laugh or make fun? Turn around and let me...just kidding :-) SO LADIES! Get over the complex of big feet, and what shoes you can and can’t wear! Especially you little ladies who wear size 7 and 8. Your feet are NOT BIG! CUT IT OUT! Cry me a river… Now that I have shared my OLD issue with my feet! I want you to buy those shoes you were hesitant about, put them on with CONFIDENCE and walk it out like its nobodies business. Most importantly… Don’t forget your confidence |
