Imagine you are an older sister/brother and your parents tell you that they are going to have a baby! Nine months pass by and all of a sudden this creature arrives and you are not only mad but you don't see what the hype is all about! This baby is wrinkly and cries all the time! Can you picture it? Are you feeling the emotions of disgust and anger at this new bundle of joy that going to take all of your attention? Well guess what? We at WYC have a new arrival too! Are you ready? You have a new writer! However, we feel the complete opposite about her! She is fun, full of energy, has a great personality AND, SHE IS NOT A BABY! We are super excited and we can't wait for her to take the spotlight and shine bright like a diamond! :-) :drum roll please: Her name is Gianya aka Gigi! She is a the newest writer for WYC! WOOP! WOOP! She doesn't cry, she sings! Check out her writing skills! I know you will love this article! Also, stay tuned for more on Gigi as well as other members of WYC! The Rockstar in You- Gigi Breland When you wake in the morning and examine yourself in the mirror, does that little voice in your head (the one you’re using to read this) sound more positive or negative? If you’re like most females, that voice is probably feeding you all types of horrible thoughts and feelings about you and your body. Maybe you don’t like your curves, or your lack of curves. Maybe you don’t like the texture of your hair, or the smoothness of your skin. Maybe that voice is telling you that you’re not good enough, or you're not worthy of someone else’s affection or love. Well guess what? That voice is the sound of hundreds of years of society telling women that they aren’t good enough, or thin enough, or curvy enough, or pretty enough. That voice has no place in your head or in your heart, and I think it’s time we shut it down. I spent way too many years standing in front of mirrors nit-picking and looking for reasons to dislike the person that I saw staring back at me. I could’ve probably found some form of criticism on every part of my body from the crown of my frizzy-haired head to the soles of my eczema-covered feet, but what good was that doing for me? What success and happiness was I getting from destroying myself and my confidence? None. Not an ounce of joy. My low self-esteem in my physical being began to affect my mental, spiritual and emotional health to the point where I hated almost everything about myself. If you’re anything like I was, you may relate to these feelings of inadequacy. Perhaps you’ve cried over some aspect of yourself that isn’t up to your own, possibly unrealistic, standards, or maybe you pray every night that you’ll change. I had to start praying that I could see myself the way that God saw me, and it worked! You’re a rockstar! You’re an individual who possesses unique talents and abilities and there’s no one else in the world like you who can do the amazing things that you can do the way that you do them. Although everyone says it and almost no one believes it, you really are special! Society wants you to believe that there is a specific type of person/body that is “perfect”, but that is a myth! No one is perfect, but everyone is beautiful, including YOU! When you are able to quiet that negative voice in your head that tells you that you are anything less than beautiful, and focus on the wonderful and positive things that make you the gorgeous, fierce girl that you are, you can embrace your inner rockstar and help others embrace theirs, too! ************** ******************* ****************** ***************** Wasn't that awesome? Everyone Else Is Doing It...
5/20/2015
The other day I was scrolling through Facebook and IG and I noticed several people posting different things (DUH, isn’t that what IG is for?). Some fitness, some inspirational, some hair and some posts on style and fashion. And I started to feel some type of way. Let’s be real, I started to get discouraged. I realized that everyone is doing the same thing! As I was scrolling I noticed that some of the people on IG have thousands and hundred of thousands of followers, some had millions. All of a sudden …Not gonna lie, I started to compare myself to them and their numbers. Um, like hello! I’m doing cool things too! I’m doing what I’m passionate about! I love God, modeling, encouraging young girls and women, clothes and all of that good stuff. As soon as I started to compare myself, I suddenly had to stop and remember that confident girls don’t compare themselves to others! I had to check myself! I actually stopped to do a google search to find out how many people are in the world. There are over 7 billion people in the entire world! This world is big! I realized something that I had to share with you! Here it is: Even though you are only one person you can make a huge impact on people! Impact one person in a great way and watch the ripple effect that you will have! They will tell another person and that person will tell another person. Run your race, stay in your lane and do what God has told you to do. Yes, there are millions of people doing what you want to do, but no one has your exact personality, your looks, your style or your flavor! I can’t compare myself to Heather Lindsey, Kimberly Pothier, or Chanel Iman! I have to do what I am supposed to do, the way that I was called to do it! There are millions of people who are waiting for you and I to not get distracted and stop but WE must remember to keep on going! The world waiting for an original! They are waiting for you! So what are you waiting for? XOXO, Cherise *Don’t Forget Your Confidence Get Your Confidence Back!

Have you ever had a dream or goal that you wanted to achieve but you quit because people didn't believe in you? Have you ever been discouraged from being you? Guess what? You are not the only one! Girl's all across the globe are being teased and discouraged because they are different. But don't let that stop you! I can't begin to tell you how many people did not believe in me or told me that I didn't "fit in." I am so glad I don't fit in and I am so glad I did not listen to any of their negative words! I am here to stay baby! I don't fit and that's perfectly fine with me! If would have quit I would not be here today sharing the great time I had over the weekend... it was AWESOME! Not only was I able to celebrate Mother’s Day with my mom but I was able to do something that I love to do! Can you guess?... MODEL! I had a photo shoot with thee one and only Brittnee B (our Creative Director of WYC)! AND ON TOP OF THAT! I was able to bring along with me, one of my mentee’s… LaDonna! You might remember her! She wrote a post for WYC a few months ago. ANYWHOO! This was LaDonna’s very first photo shoot and I can guarantee you it will not be her last! You see, what made this photo shoot special was the fact that LaDonna was doing something she had always wanted to do. She was poking out of her shell and starting to WEAR HER CONFIDENCE! For years she has always wanted to model, but being teased at a young age because of burn scars on her legs and vitiligo on her face; her hopes of pursuing modeling quickly faded and she never tried. UNTIL NOW! I invited LaDonna to the shoot. As I was preparing I asked her if she wanted her makeup done, but she was quick to tell me, no, and that she wanted to be as natural as possible. When she arrived, she had a big smile on her face she was ready to roll. I first took a few pics on my own and then I let her loose to do her own thing. I’m not going to lie but I was really impressed. Every now and then I would poke my head over AWALL’s shoulders (the photographer) to see how she was doing and what she was doing, but she needed little direction. I am so excited to see where the road leads for LaDonna! The pictures came out great! LaDonna is truly an inspiration to girls worldwide! She turned off the negative voices and turned on her confidence! If she can do it, you can too! With that being said, what is holding you back from doing what you love? Were teased and picked on? Were people mean and unsupportive? Let me tell you something! No one can stop you from achieving your dreams but you! Let people talk all they want, just do not allow their negative words to replay in your head, over and over. Kill that negative noise and start being positive! Believe in yourself! Believe in your abilities! Remember that you are beautiful! You are courageous! You are brave! You are confident!! Never forget it! XOXO, Cherise Don't forget your confidence! Special shout out to our bomb photographer AWALL! He is a beast behind the camera! Take a look at the pics! See for yourself! How do you think we did? Behind the scenes fun! It was really hot that day! Don't Trust HIM!

Are you one of the many who suffers with TRUST ISSUES? You don't trust the weatherman because he said it was supposed to be sunny but all of a sudden it rains and your twist out had turned into a fuzz ball! You don't trust the media because all they do is spread lies and propaganda! Or maybe you have trust issues because you have been done dirty by a significant other? You know... had your heartbroken and trust completely taken advantage of? Guess what? You are not alone! Some of us have really bad trust issues! We don't trust our friends or family. And don't get us started on our shadow! It's here one minute and gone the next! We don't trust that shadowy creep! It lurks around just waiting to stalk us! Ok, maybe that last example was a bit much, but trust issues are real! You don't have to be that way! Check out what I have to say about TRUST! Give Your Emotions The Finger!

Have you ever felt like giving up? Stupid question! DUH! I am confident enough to believe that 99.9% of people have felt that way. Don’t leave me hangin’... There have been times when you have felt helpless, frustrated and annoyed. Many of us feel that way with ourselves. Sometimes you feel like your efforts are not getting you anywhere. You press and press. You try and try but the answer is no, or not now, or you don’t get an answer at all! I know I am not the only one! If I can totally be honest with you guys and gals, I felt a bit that way as I started to write this blog. I was going to post an old blog and call it a new blog because I just have not had time to sit down and write. I would think, is anyone reading this? What’s the point! This is dumb. I am not getting the response I want sooo this ONE TIME will not hurt! SMH but then I realized, people actually read these and are waiting to see what I have to talk about. Anywhooo, to make a short story shorter, here we are! I write. You read and share! I said all that to say that your efforts are not going to waste and you can’t give up now! WHY? Because who knows, the very day you decide to quit may be the day that you get your YES! WHO KNOWS! The day I decide to be lazy with a blog post could be the very day a magazine editor or CEO decides to surf the web and land on the WYC site, but because I decided to let my feelings get the best of me, I BLOW MY CHANCE! (I am getting chills just thinking about it) As a confident girl, you have to ask yourself: 1. Why did I get started in the first place? 2. Do I believe in myself enough to keep going, no matter how many no’s I get? We all have moments where our emotions want to get in our way, but that’s when we have to give our emotions the finger! The index finger, silly! We have to put it up and say, “NO, NO, NO, NOT TODAY!” and then keep on going! You are really close! I can sense it! Just because you can’t see it now, just know that you are closer than you feel and know! Your hard work will pay off! Keep on going my dear! We don't give up! #confidentgirlfacts XOXO Cherise Don’t Forget Your Confidence! |
