Have you joined the “Natural Hair Movement?” I’ve been natural since the day I was born and I feel like I am way behind. There are so many oils and moisturizers out there that it’s so hard to find out what really works. If you’re anything like me, you probably have a ton of hair products that you don't use because they just don't work for your hair. No worries! You are not alone! Taming the mane can be a job in itself and when the job gets too hard we tend to quit and give up on our hair. But we can't. If you quit on your hair it will quit on you and you will be bald! For those who are natural or are in transition, the best thing to do is to keep your hair moisturized! Co-wash (conditioner mixed with oils, coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, etc.) and let it marinate for about an hour. One moisturizer that I recommend is called Shea Moisture (sold at Target). It does wonders for me. Also, protect your hair from time to time. Braid it, weave it, twist it, or put a wig on! Yes, a wig. Don't forget to oil your scalp and keep in mind healthy hair comes from a healthy scalp. Minimize the brushing, if you can and stay away from flat irons and pressing combs. Too much heat will damage your hair. If you are willing to go the extra mile to get the hair length you have always dreamed of then you have to feed your body the right things. Drink plenty of water and take your vitamins (Biotin as well as vitamin C). Cut back on the sweets and the junk food. Spinach and blueberries and salmon are considered "hair food" and will contribute to hair growth. It's a long journey but don't get discouraged. Months from now you will look back at your hair and be amazed. Try not to be a hair product junkie! You'll never know what really works for you if you keep hoping from one product to the next. KEEP CALM and watch your hair grow!
